Grid Tools & Services: Mandate

In general: ensure coordination in the development activities of the ATLAS distributed systems (Distributed Production, Distributed Analysis and Distributed Data Management), and contacts and information flow with related activities, such as middleware projects, core software (for running environments and transformations) and computing operations (for integrations, testing and validation).

The Grid Tools & Services coordination has primary responsibility for the organisation of the following activities:

  1. Development and deployment of the Production System
    • supervisor
    • executors
    • production database set-up and related tools
    • connection to the bookkeeping database
    • connection to Distributed Data Management
  2. Job preparation & submission
    • including provisions for production jobs and distributed analysis jobs on the Grid, as well as single test jobs
  3. Grid architecture and tools:
    • middleware contacts (liaison with middleware projects, transmission of requirements from us and information on new tools or functionalities from m/w projects to us)
    • testing of (new) middleware components
    • definition of the Grid tools and environment to be used by our production system and by interactive users
  4. Distributed Analysis System
    • provision of a system that allows the analysis of ATLAS data on the Grid, including job split and merge, submission and retrieval, bookkeeping
