The COmputing Books Selling (COBS) Service runs as part of the UCO's Help Desk in building 513. It offers users the possibility to purchase selected Computing Documentation (books, manuals, CD-ROM documents...) at competitive prices.
Previously known as ``Computing Documentation Office'', the COBS Service has been deployed without restrictions regarding the number of books or publishers being engaged for a better delivery. The purchasing procedure has already been described elsewhere (CNL 218).
Our current offering comes mainly from the following publishers: Addison-Wesley, International Thomson Publishing (distributors of the reputed O'Reilly & Associates series) and Prentice Hall, as well as Oxford University Press and GNU. We are studying the widening of our offering to others like McGraw-Hill, Springer Verlag, etc.. Please keep in touch with us by following the news on this subject in the cern.computing newsgroup.
