Why does a MailServer account exist for many people and not for some?
Is the MailServer registration automatic through a CUTE registration?
Answer
The automatic creation of a MailServer account depends in which order
the registrations have been made. The CUTE registration includes a
MailServer account for CUTE services (like cernsp) but not for
a simple AFS registration. In that case the registration to MailServer
must be done explicitely by the group administrator.
Question
I have forgotten my password. What can I do ? How long will it take
until I can login again ?
Answer
Contact the UCO help desk and they will change your password after
checking your identity.
They have no access to your actual password but they will give
you a new temporary password that you will have to change the first time you
will login. Then the time it takes
depends on the machine:
on dxcern, shift and csf
it requires human intervention so the delay can vary from several
minutes to a few hours;
on AFS (N.B. more CORE machines like cernsp or the
Public Unix Login services and Work Group Servers are based on
AFS), it is automatic and takes about 10 minutes;
on VXCERN, it goes to a server and takes up to one hour (but can be less);
on Novell,
it goes to a server and that server send a message back to the UCO
when the action has been performed.
