Book News from the UCO

  Roger Woolnough CN/DCI

We are now offering over 200 titles at the UCO and since the last Newsletter, have considerably widened the choice offered.

Several books have new editions - these include ``Learning GNU emacs'',``imake'', ``GNU emacs'' by Stallman and ``Programming Perl''. We also have the new version of the Metcalf & Reid book on Fortran 90/95.

Due to the interest in Windows NT, there are new books from Microsoft Press, the ``resource kit'' for both Server and Workstation, as well as step by step guides for workstation (all version 4). In the near future a new book from McGraw Hill, ``Windows NT The Complete Reference'' will be in stock. We also have ``Windows NT for Open VMS professionals''. For French speakers we have a book in French on NT.

The Mathematica book from Wolfram for Version 3 is i in stock and there is a further publication on order from Cambridge University Press.

The Java Source series from Addison Wesley now has four new editions: ``The Java Class Libraries'', ``The Java Virtual Machine Specification'', ``The Java Language Specification'', ``Java Tutorial''.

Due to user requests we have bought Linux books from O'Reilly. There is a double CD-ROM with Red Hat Linux, a book on ``Running Linux'' and a system administrator's guide.

Again for specialised users we have a book on Labview. It comes highly recommended and is a Prentice Hall Book: ``LabView for everyone''.

We will be pleased to hear from users who have information on new books or suggestions for new titles.

N.B. The complete list of books can be found at the end of this CNL (for the printed version), or can be consulted on the Web at URL:
