Operating System Certification - Present List

  Philippe Defert IT/DIS

As stated in CNL 224, here is the list of various versions of UNIX which we certify as working correctly with the CERN-recommended libraries, tools and utilities as of September, 1998:

Because of other priorities, the certification of Solaris 2.6 got delayed but is now almost effective. We are in the process of certifying Linux Redhat 5.1 (new Linux based on glibc) and HP-UX 10.20 ACE (necessary for the year 2000 compliance and the recent hardware).

The introduction of Digital UNIX 4.0.d is advisable (year 2000 compliant) and we hope to find resources to do it in the near future.

For those interested in the certification process, it is described in the Web page:

http://wsspinfo.cern.ch/file/certified.html

The latest news on the certification procedure are always published in the newsgroups associated with each UNIX flavour (for example cern.linux, etc.) and summarised in the Web page listed above and in each coming CNL.
