&OPTIMISE: PENNING-TRANSFERS

state

A string to select one or more excited states.

This can be an explicit state. Their names are listed under the gas ingredient descriptions. For instance, NEON-1S2 corresponds to the 1s\<SUB\>2\</SUB\> excitation in the default description of neon, i.e. NEON-ANISOTROPIC.

This may be a wildcard in which a * can represent any string. For instance, specifying Ne* will select all excited states of neon.

The selection string may be entered in upper, lower or mixed case. Case is not significant.

Not all Magboltz excited states are accessible at present in this form. Please contact the author in case your favoured state needs to be added.

rate

The fraction of excited molecules that will ionise another molecule.

This number has to be given in the form of a percentage, from 0 to 100.

delay

Mean time needed for the transfer, in microsec.

The actual time for each transfer is an exponentially distributed random number with the specified mean.

range

Sigma of the distance, in each of the coordinate axes, between the excitation and the ionisation. The distance must be expressed in cm.

The actual ionisation location is Gaussian distributed with specified sigma.

PERMITTED

By default, only excited states that have a threshold energy above at least one of the ionisation levels will be considered.

FORCED

Forces transfers also from excited states that have a threshold below the lowest ionisation level present in the gas mixture. Such transfers do not occur, as a rule.
