CERN Neutrino Cluster Installation Outline

We've tried to introduce a lot of automation as explained here.

At this stage, you will have a functional interactive cluster. You can create users and they will be able to do most of what they are able to do interactively, for example at LXPLUS. Now we start the setup of the batch nodes.

  1. Edit the kickstart files for the worker nodes to be appropriate for your hardware and your network environment
  2. Kickstart the batch slave nodes: these nodes will be visible now through the private network, and you will be able to log in as root after logging into one of the interactive nodes.
  3. Run the post-install scripts on the batch slave nodes: mount the NFS area, create the local service accounts, configure and install condor, configure the ldap client, install and mount the cvmfs file system.
  4. Start Condor in the head node, the interactive nodes and the batch slave nodes.
  5. Install XrootD, configure and start on the head and batch nodes.

Configure the final services for completion

  1. Install GridFTP: you will fetch large Dune data sets using this.
  2. Start Ganglia: this will provide monitoring for the cluster.

You are done with the installation. You should have a completed cluster. But before you create user accounts and let people on the cluster.

  1. Create a test user account.
  2. Run though the functionality test suite.
Now you are done.
