Currently:

Disk servers are used at the same time for writing to and reading from. This leads to performance problems due to contention in the disk hardware (seeks), block cache, and networking.

Proposed changes:

By Castor magic smile try not to stage data into or service users from those disk servers which are writing their buffers to tape. In addition, perhaps data traffic incoming from the tape servers could be "prioritized" or buffered (see LocalCacheForTapeServers) in some way so that the tape drive is not blocked when reading from tape and writing to a slow disk server
