Currently:

tape servers use their memory cache to collect multiple streams from disk servers and then write to tape. Outgoing data is not effectively cached.

Proposed changes:

use a 'disk server like' machine as tape server, with local disk arrays to cache data traffic both ways. Incoming and outgoing traffic should go to separate disk arrays, for better performance (see DiskServersSingleDirection)
