Profiles used for Run 2 Monte Carlo production

Number of interactions per bunch crossing used in mc20 production (Run 2)
Luminosity weighted distributions of the simulated mean number of interactions per crossing used in the MC20 Monte Carlo production campaign, generated based on the observed data distributions. The campaign was split into three sub-campaigns, separately for 2015+2016, 2017, and 2018 data.

Number of interactions per bunch crossing used in mc16 production (Run 2)
Luminosity weighted distributions of the simulated mean number of interactions per crossing used in the MC16 Monte Carlo production campaign. The campaign was split into three sub-campaigns, separately for 2015+2016, 2017, and 2018 data. The MC16a and MC16d distributions have been generated based on the observed data distributions, whereas the MC16e distribution has been generated based on the expected beam parameters for the 2018 data taking.

Profiles used for 2012 Monte Carlo production

Number of interactions per bunch crossing used in mc12 pre-data-taking production
Luminosity weighted distribution of the mean number of interactions per crossing used in the mc12a Monte Carlo production campaign. The distribution has been generated before the start of the 2012 pp data-taking, based on the expected beam parameters for pp collisions and allowing enough Monte Carlo statistics on the high and low tails of the distribution. It is superimposed on the luminosity distribution observed in 2012 pp good quality data averaged over all BCIDs. The data luminosity distribution has been converted to mean number of interactions per beam crossing using a inelastic cross-section of 66 mb. This value was found to give the best Monte Carlo description of luminositysensitive quantities in data such as the vertex multiplicity distribution.

Number of interactions per bunch crossing used in mc12 post-data-taking production
Luminosity weighted distribution of the mean number of interactions per crossing used in the mc12b Monte Carlo production campaign. The distribution has been generated at the end of 2012 pp data taking, based on the observed data distribution. Enough statistics has been generated on the tails of the distribution to take into account systematic uncertainties on the measurement of the luminosity and rescaling factors. It is superimposed on the luminosity distribution observed in 2012 pp good quality data averaged over all BCIDs. The data luminosity distribution has been converted to mean number of interactions per beam crossing using an inelastic cross-section of 66 mb. This value was found to give the best Monte Carlo description of luminosity sensitive quantities in data such as the vertex multiplicity distribution.
