BDII High Availability Approach

The BDII is running on a LDAP server. Each BDII performs its own queries of the data and is independent of the other.

Proposal

The BDII cluster should be a set of independent machines using a DNS round robin to select the best candidates. There is no need for any shared storage or state since each machine maintains its own status.

A monitoring script would need to be developed which would provide the load balancing DNS with the correct metric. This is not only based on the server running but also on the data freshness since the BDII can sometimes fail to be updated and it should therefore be ignored.
