perfSONAR Mesh Leaders Information
A critical role for the WLCG Network and Transfer Metrics working group is monitoring and maintaining the world-wide distribution of perfSONAR-PS Toolkit instances at the WLCG Tier-n sites. When there are problems it can be difficult to centrally diagnose and repair. As part of the working group we are including a
Mesh Leader for each WLCG mesh (see examples at the prototype site
http://maddash.aglt2.org/maddash-webui/index.cgi or the OSG test instance at
http://perfsonar-itb.grid.iu.edu/maddash-webui/index.cgi ).
The roles and responsibilities for the Mesh Leaders are:
- Participate in the activities and meetings of the WLCG Network and Transfer Metrics WG
- Serve as the primary contact for their mesh
- Monitor tests within their mesh regularly (1/week) identifying any problems
- Work with sites within their mesh to fix identified problems including failing tests, out-of-date software and mis-configuration
Note Mesh Leaders are
not responsible for diagnosing real network problems identified by the measurements. The standard best practice for network problems is for sites to work through their local network support team who should take ownership of the problem.
The list of proposed Mesh Leaders is:
