• Will your site be willing to participate in the joint tape test?
    • For multi-VO site , for which VOs then?

- need more info about test details. We are migrating data to new tape format now, and we are interested to join to test if it is not related to mass tape read/write activity. We are supporting ALICE ATLAS and LHCb. Any of this VO may be used for tape test. Please note, that ops/dteam VO is configured to avoid writing data to tape.

  • What is the maximum available tape throughput of the site?

- up to 1.5GB/s based on drive/network specification. In reality we see about 750MB/s if requests is not mixed between tapes or/and read/write or/and between VOs.

  • Number of tape drives and drive types

- for now we have IBM tape drives: 6 TS1150 + 9 TS1140. We are migrating data to TS1150 format, so just TS1150 will be used soon.

  • Does the site have hard-partition between read and write?

- no

  • For multi-VOs, does the site have hard-partition between VOs?

- yes

  • How the tape drives are allocated among VOs and for write and read?

- For now: every VO have two dedicated TS1140 drives + one TS1150, all other drives is shared. - In future: one dedicated TS1150 drive per VO + three shared drives. Have no read only or write only drives.

  • Tape disk buffer size
    • For read
    • For write

- read and write buffers is mixed, but every VO have own tape buffer: - ALICE: 100Tb - ATLAS: 16+15Tb (two spacetokens: MCTAPE and DATATAPE) - LHCb: 15Tb

  • Any other info the site finds relevant ans wants to share. For example ,how much of the tape infrastructure is shared between experiments, what is the impact of other communities, etc.

- for now we are migrating data from TS1140 to TS1150 format to increase storage capacity. It is mean that we have to read all data and then write it again, tape by tape.

Please see some additional questions to answer

  • According with the LHC experiment expected throughputs YY on site XX how much you could offer for the 2nd week of October and what percentage of hardware you will have during that date?

- Have no plans for additional hardware. Expected throughputs by VOs is about that we may provide (if there is no mixing requests).

  • When do you expect to have required hardware in place?

- now
