SIMPLE Grid - Site Admins

Setting up WLCG Sites using SIMPLE Grid Project

The SIMPLE Grid Project aims to simplify the process of installing grid services. Essentially a Site Admin is required to do the following 3 things:

* Establish a configuration head node and slave nodes in the infrastructure where the WLCG Site will operate. This is required to establish trust among the nodes that will be configured via the SIMPLE Grid Framework. If using Puppet, this step essentially mimics the setting up of a puppet master (head node) and puppet agents(slaves).

* Write the Site Level Configuration File to describe the WLCG services that need to be installed and configured. Here is a sample Site Level Configuration File. The configuration information is related to site infrastructure (hostnames of nodes), Grid Components (Compute Elements, Batch Systems, Worker Nodes etc.) and Misc Site Info (Users, Groups, VO's, Information for BDII etc.). This configuration information is used by the framework to configure the containers of the respective grid services. The SIMPLE Grid Framework allows site admins to declare and use variables. You can also choose values from several sensible default values provided by the framework, which can be overridden to further fine tune the configuration information.

* The last step is to run the framework and let it apply the configuration on all the nodes specified for running the grid site.

More concrete information will be updated on this page once the feedback from sites helping with the user acceptance testing of the framework is available.

As we are nearing the first release of the SIMPLE Grid Framework, we are inviting site admins to help test the framework and also experience some of the benefits of managing their grid site, the SIMPLE way!
