Details of VOMS host backups to TSM.
In order to be able to recover as quick as possible from an incident (disk failure, etc.), 1-year backups for /opt and /var are done by TSM.
The configuration of that component is done automatically by Quattor (according to parameters which are in CDB templates), but after a fresh installation, you have to set the password before being able to do any backup. It can be done by running dsmc i (the user id must be the hostname, default choice).
The complete list in /usr/dsm/backup.excl, which can be seen on the production machines is currently
Include /var/log/.../*
Include /opt/.../*
Include /var/glite/.../*
Include /etc/glite/.../*
Include /etc/grid-security/.../*
This list is included in the CDB template
VomsCdb.
To verify that a file is being backed up, run as root on voms10x.cern.ch the command (example directory /var/log) dsmc q backup -inactive /var/log/'*' . This will list the files which are in TSM for the directory /var/log. The backup activity log is in /var/log/dsmsched.log on the host concerned.
For more details about this service, see
BackNcmClient.
Notes:
- no problem for 1 year log storage, possible problems for longer periods.
- according to the User Registration Security Requirements http://edms.cern.ch/document/428034, log archives should be kept 2 years.
