WLCG Operations Call details

General Information

• The purpose of the meeting is:
  • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
  • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
  • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
  • to provide important news about the middleware;
  • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
• The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
• The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
• Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to wlcg-scod@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

• KIT: Slow transfer rates Wednesday and Thursday with unknown cause. As one consequence, Alice jobs frequently timed out and retried fetching their data from off-site, which in turn clogged the (IPv4) firewall.

  • DBOD: Mandatory upgrade of MySQL 5.6 instances to 5.7
    • The end of life for MySQL 5.6 release in February 2021 is approaching. All the DBOD instances running 5.6.x must be migrated to the next supported version which is currently 5.7.26. To help you with this process, we have enabled automated upgrades in the affected instances that you can execute from the DBOD web interface at your earliest convenience.
    • Please be aware that by the end of January 2021, we will have to force the upgrade to v5.7.26 for any instances still running 5.6.x
    • An email with detailed instructions was sent to all DBoD owners.

• Monitoring:
  • monit-kibana-acc cluster updated from ES6 to ES7
    • There are more and more site users of the cluster and this caused some scripts to break
    • We will make sure to communicate these interventions well in advance in this meeting.
    • Users can also subscribe themselves to monit-interventions e-group where an email will be sent
  • Draft reports for November availability sent around
    • Due to some misconfiguration we had to send a second corrected version (first one was lacking some recomputations), we are sorry for the inconveniences.
