Week of 221205

WLCG Operations Call details

  • The connection details for remote participation are provided on this agenda page.

General Information

  • The purpose of the meeting is:
    • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
    • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
    • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
    • to provide important news about the middleware;
    • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
  • The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
  • The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
  • Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to the wlcg-scod list (at cern.ch) to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

Best practices for scheduled downtimes

Monday

Attendance:

  • local: Julia (WLCG), Maarten (ALICE, WLCG)
  • remote: Kate (chair, DB), Xavier (KIT), Henryk (LHCb), Dave (FNAL), Michal (ATLAS), Andrew (TRIUMF), Christoph (CMS), Darren (NDGF), David (IN2P3), Steve (FTS), Pepe (PIC), Borja (monitoring), Jens (NL-T1)

Experiments round table:

  • ATLAS reports ( raw view) -
    • Activities:
      • Large log deletion campaign
        • 88M files, 976 TB. Some RSEs affected more than others
        • Spread over the next four months, but can be canceled in case it proves troublesome
    • Issues:
      • mass queue blacklisting on Tuesday
      • "Request to PoolManager@dCacheDomain timed out" transfer failures from TRIUMF tapes (GGUS:159780)
      • "Server Error" transfer failures from TRIUMF (GGUS:159531)

  • ALICE
    • NTR

Sites / Services round table:

  • ASGC:
  • BNL:
  • CNAF: NTR
  • EGI:
  • FNAL:
  • IN2P3: Reminder that site will be in scheduled maintenance tomorrow. Dowmtimes as follow:
  • JINR: NTR
  • KISTI:
  • KIT: From Thursday to Friday the lsc files for voms-*-auth.app.cern.ch were gone from CEs and storage nodes. That means, that our services had problems authenticating users/jobs with proxies or tokens issued by any of those servers. We ask EGI and WLCG to provide the same level of detail through the VO ID cards and VOMS server list hosted by EGI as for the regular VOMS servers, too (GGUS:159793). Apparently, there is a pending request by EGI towards CERN VOMS admins to facilitate just that (GGUS:155077).
Maarten explained that new VOMS service doesn't provide VOMS Admin interface. There is a plan to add API to IAM for the needs of operations portal to obtain needed data. This will be implemented and deployed next year, so the situation will stay hybrid for next few months. Xavier confirmed that situation was solved by manual file creation.

  • NDGF: possible (TBC) downtime on Wednesday in order to patch DCache
  • NL-T1: NTR
  • NRC-KI:
  • OSG:
  • PIC:
  • RAL: NTR
  • TRIUMF: NTR

  • CERN computing services:
    • CMS IAM update to increase VOMS proxy from 4 to 8 days OTG:0074522 Tue Dec 06, 2022 08:00
  • CERN storage services:
  • CERN databases: Firewall issues during ADCR DB patching last Tuesday caused issues for Rucio and hence issues reported by ATLAS
  • GGUS: NTR
  • Monitoring:
    • Distributed final SiteMon availability/reliability reports for October 2022
    • Distributed draft SiteMon availability/reliability reports for November 2022
  • Middleware: NTR
  • Networks:
  • Security:
