Week of 230605

WLCG Operations Call details

  • The connection details for remote participation are provided on this agenda page.

General Information

  • The purpose of the meeting is:
    • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
    • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
    • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
    • to provide important news about the middleware;
    • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
  • The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
  • The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
  • Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to the wlcg-scod list (at cern.ch) to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

Best practices for scheduled downtimes

Monday

Attendance:

  • remote: Andrew (TRIUMF), Borja (Chair, Monitoring), Christoph (CMS), Darren (RAL), David B (IN2P3), David M (FNAL), Julia (WLCG), Petr (ATLAS), Xavier (KIT)

Experiments round table:

  • ATLAS reports ( raw view) -
    • CERN Alarm ticket GGUS:162092
      • Unscheduled EOS ATLAS configuration update on Thursday late afternoon broke transfers from P1. Reverted.
        • old XRootD clients don't work with ZTN (token) auth enabled on server if host doesn't have grid certificates (no graceful fallback to krb5 or sss auth)
      • Originally planned for morning next day OTG0077574
  • CMS reports ( raw view) -
    • CMS asked (ia GGUS ticket) a few sites to add some RPMs for updated SAM tests
      • Is HEP_OSlibs RPM still recommended? CMS might want to ask for an update in that case
        • Julia: We will follow up with ETF team and contact you back
    • Increased number of job failures at CERN being investigated GGUS:162201

  • ALICE
    • NTR

Sites / Services round table:

  • ASGC: NC
  • BNL: NTR
  • CNAF: NC
  • EGI: NC
  • FNAL: NTR
  • IN2P3: Quarterly maintenance on June, Tuesday 13th. SRM nearline will be off from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM (GGUS #34050)
  • JINR: NC
  • KISTI: NC
  • KIT: As requested by LHCb in GGUS:162168, today we applied the patch to accept weak cryptographic keys on RHEL-8 machines.
    • Petr: On a related topic we have an open issue as FTS proxy delegation doesn't work on RHEL9 FTS-1918
  • NDGF: NC
  • NL-T1: Last Friday, the server containing the core domain of the Surfsara dCache crashed. After the core domain was moved to another host, dCache worked again. dCache had been down for a few hours. We'll set this up redundantly. We hadn't done so before, because we had performance issues in our core domain. Those problems have disappeared with a recent OpenJDK upgrade.
  • NRC-KI: NC
  • OSG: NC
  • PIC: Next Wednesday, June 7th, there is scheduled maintenance on our provider's network connectivity node, which will result in a communication outage from 7:00 am to 8:00 am.
  • RAL: NTR
  • TRIUMF: NTR

  • CERN computing services: NC
  • CERN storage services: NC
  • CERN databases: NC
  • GGUS: NTR
  • Monitoring:
    • Distributed draft SiteMon availability/reliability reports for May 2023
  • Middleware: NTR
