Dear "CMS GEM TDR" editors:

I have very roughly read through a part of the 11/2/2015 version and would have a few small and large (especially an obvious error mentioned in the item (17)) questions and comments, mostly in general and for consistency. I list them below, please make a note of it if any of them would be sound.

Thank you and looking forward to hearing from you.

-Sijin

In general

(1) Throughout the TDR, the variable "pT" has been expressed in 3 ways

(a) p(italic)T(italic): in many cases

(b) p(non-italic)T(italic): on L867 and L1089, etc.

(c) p(italic)T(non-italic): in Chapter 6 and after

e.g. Fig.6.14's caption has the style (a) on the 6th line while the (c) on the 5th line.

They all should be consistent. Please cross check all other places.

MT: All fixed

(2) All Table and Figure captions, to be consistent in this TDR, should be ended with a period dot. The ones which need a dot at the end are

Tables 3.2, 3.3 and 6.2;

Figs. 3.3, 9.1, 9.2, 9.6 and 9.7.

MT: All done apart from Chapter 9

(3) All Table captions, to be consistent in this TDR, should be placed above the Table instead of underneath. The ones which need to be changed are

Tables 2.1, 2.2, 5.1, 5.2, 7.1-7.5 and 9.1.

Also, Tables 9.2-9.8 are wrongly labeled as Figs.9.2-9.8 in Pages 156-159, and obviously should be corrected first, then move their captions from the underneath upward to the places above the Tables.

MT: all fixed, apart from Chapter 9

Page (i), Abstract

(4) I'm not sure whether the Section title of "Abstract" should be added or not.

MT: looking at other CMS TDRs, this seems not needed

(5) The 4th line of Abstract, since "LS2" has not been used afterward in Abstract, it eventually can be removed, i.e.

"shutdown (LS2) of the CERN LHC and ..." --> "shutdown of the CERN LHC and ..."

MT: fixed

(6) The 6th line, a word of "pseudorapidity" may should be added, i.e.

"the muon system in the 1.6 < |eta| < 2.2 region," --> "the muon system in the 1.6 < |eta| < 2.2 pseudorapidity region,"

MT: fixed

Page (xx)

(7) L721, to be consistent with the capitalization of all other Chapter titles, the 1st letters of 5 words should be in the upper case, i.e.

"5 Chamber production, quality control and quality assurance" --> "5 Chamber Production, Quality Control and Quality Assurance"

MT: fixed

Page (xxi)

(8) L774-777, to be consistent with the capitalization of all other sub- Chapter titles, all non-leading words of Sections 9.3-9.6 should be in the lower case, i.e.

"9.3 Role of the Project Manager and Management Team 9.4 GEM Technical Coordination Team 9.5 Role of the Resource Manager 9.6 Organization of Construction work" -->

"9.3 Role of the project manager and management team 9.4 GEM technical coordination team 9.5 Role of the resource manager 9.6 Organization of construction work"

The corresponding titles in the main text should be changed too.

Pages 181-186, in the References Section

(9) Some journal names in some items are abbreviated, some are not, e.g.

"Nucl.Instrum.Meth." of [15], [19], [20], [22], [23], [26], [29] vs. the full name of NIM of [10] and [34].

They should be consistent.

MT: fixed

Also, some items have one page index, some others have two.

some items have the year number, some others do not have. (in the later case, if there would be problems to display the year number with the default bib file, it may be fixed by changing from "article" to "unpublished" in the bib file.)

MT: fixed as much as possible
