Open questions
It is difficult to discuss funding issues at least before having a clear idea of the services expected by the experiments. The following questions are intended to help solve this question.
- room refurbishing
- Which rooms for ATLAS, LHCb and Alice?
- Should each experiment pay for equiping "its" rooms?
- If so, what does "its" mean? How can we define the level of priority for booking the rooms?
- Or should all experiments contribute to a common fund in view of this global equipment?
- If so the contributions could be calculated according to the relative usage of the rooms
- The contributions could be spread over the expected life time of the systems (5 years)
- The contribution could be added as a forfait also including other services (filming, webcasting...)
- videoconference equipment maintenance
- Which maintenance contract should be established? (more details about the different possibilities will be provided at a later stage)
- Videoconference support
- Planned interventions or on request?
- User training? In which form (personal tutorials or general training sessions)?
- VRVS support
- What kind of support could CERN and the experiments provide to Caltech in order to preserve the service?
- IT-UDS already contributes to VRVS support by hosting a PJAS (which activity goes far beyond CERN). In the current situation, IT-UDS feels its contribution should not go further
- Lecture recordings
- Simple videos or web lecture objects or both?
- How should the work be split between U. of Michigan and CERN?
- In which rooms? If only a limited number of rooms is needed, then they could be equiped permanently as is the main auditorium.
- Self-service or with operators?
