DJRA1.2.4 - Data Area Work Plan and Status Report (PM36)

This deliverable contains the detailed work plan of the Data Services technical area compliant with the overall EMI Technical Development Plan. The plan is released early in the project life and updated every year including a status report on the achievements of the past 12 months compared to the planned objectives. The status report at M03 will cover the state-of-the art while the work plan at M36 will provide recommendations for further work. [month 36]

From the EC report on the DJRA1.2.3 Data Area Work Plan and Status Report :
This deliverable reports on the progress made towards achieving unification of the data storage elements in the EMI source middlewares into a coherent EMI package. This objective has not yet been fully realised but work is on schedule to complete before EMI III is released. For the EMI II release, storage element synchronisation is complete and POSIX compliance (storage elements) was achieved through the integration of StoRM. DPM and dCache compliances are now supported through the adoption of different flavours of the NFS protocol; moreover, user requests for direct federated access to EMI distributed repositories have been addressed through the integration of a WebDAV interface. Highly laudable and ambitious plans for final year activities are included at component level in great detail. As with the compute area, given the requirement to work up to a defined quality standard in this project, the scope of these ambitious plans may need to be refined. Quality must not suffer merely to improve quantity.
