gLite MPI Service Reference Card

Functional description

mpi-start is a set of scripts to close the gap between the workload management system of a Grid insfrastructure and the configuration of the nodes on which MPI applications are run. The package is used to help the user start MPI applications on heterogeneous Grid sites.

Daemons running

No daemons running

Init scripts and options (start|stop|restart|...)

No init scripts

Configuration files location with example or template

Non standard locations of MPI implementation can be specified in /etc/mpi-start/mpi-config.local, although normally is not needed.

Logfile locations (and management) and other useful audit information

Logs are written into the standard error of the executing job

Open ports

No open ports. The MPI implementation may open ports for communication between hosts, refer to your MPI implementation documentation.

Possible unit test of the service

Job execution using ''dummy'' mpi

Where is service state held (and can it be rebuilt)

Service is stateless

Cron jobs

No cron jobs

Security information

Security is not enforced by mpi-start. Communication among nodes of an execution may use different mechanisms depending on the MPI implementation and the available interconnect.
