Infrastructure Area Simplification Plan
The infrastructure area simplification plan was
presented at the 3rd EMI All Hands Meeting in Padova. This plan only affects the information and accounting systems as the other areas are new in EMI and hence do not require simplification.
Accounting
Within EMI there are two accounting systems APEL and DGAS. Simplification will be achieved through harmonization in three phases.
- Agreement on the information models.
- Publication of records using EMI Messaging
- Harmonization of the publishers
Phase one and two are already defined within the EMI work-plan. For phase three, EGI will be consulted on the best approach for harmonization of the publishers.
Information System
The following table shows the initial set of information system components in EMI 1. The goal of the simplification plan is to reduce the duplication of functionality.

The last row of the table shows the name of the single component which will be used to provide that functionality. The adoption of GLUE 2.0, the development of the EMI registry and the agreement for the EMI Resource Information Service are already defined within the EMI work-plan. The decision on harmonization of information system clients was delayed until after the EMI 1 release so that use feedback can be sort on the products. A meeting will take place with EGI where the issue of information clients will be dicussed.
