Release Notes

EMI 1 (Kebnekaise) is the first EMI full release, containing all software components that were build, tested, certified together, and now released together

Main news:

• all components are fully supported on the SL5/64bits, with EPEL as repository for external components
  • supported package formats: tar.gz, src.tar.gz, rpm, src.rpm - list available here
• one EMI repository for all components [[][EMI repoview]]
• components follow well known packaging guidelines and policies defined by Fedora, EPEL and Debian

APEL parsers

• Logging of BlahdLogProcessor reduced.
• Check table for BlahdRecords removed.
• APEL parsers now reading benchmarking information when GlueClusterUniqueID or GlueSubClusterUniqueID is different than CE Id.
• APEL LSF parser now working for java 64bit.
• APEL LSF parser now normalising cpu and wallclock time per job using the hostFactor field in lsb.acct.
• APEL LSF parser now parsing lsb.acct file.

APEL publisher
Version 3.2.7 Details task #18693

• APEL publisher allows VO filtering (list of VOs for which the site wants to publish accounting data to the central server) and mapping between local groups to VOs.
• APEL publisher can be run in only joining mode without contacting the broker.
• The publisher doesn't starthttps://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/EMI/EMIWNv100Details the ActiveMQ session until the joining of records has been done, avoiding timeouts.
• The default value for the Limit variable has been lowered to avoid out of memory problems.

ARC CE
Version 1.0.0 Details task #18573

• ARC Compute Element (ARC CE) in EMI-1 "Kebnekaise" release is a major step forward with respect to previous releases, as it completes migration to the new code base.
• Grid Manager service, which was at the heart of ARC CE for a decade, is completely refactored and re-engineered, while keeping all of its key features that made it so reliable and attractive, including automatic data caching and staging. The "replacement" is called A-REX (for ARC Resource-coupled EXecution service), which is a more sustainable, scalable and extendible (e.g. via plugins) solution.
• A-REX provides a new WS-based interface in addition to the gridftp-based pre-ws interface, thus preserving backwards interface compatibility
• A-REX can publish, through the LIDI WS interface, GLUE2 XML information
• A-REX comes with set of information providers that can feed GLUE2 LDAP information into the ARIS service
• A-REX comes with support for new back-end for the EDGI 3GBridged.
• As experimental feature A-REX offers improved input/output data handling framework
• As an experimental feature A-REX comes with and ARGUS authorisation plugin.
• The dynamic runtime environment module, the Janitor is another experimental new feature
• None of the experimental features are turned on by default, they offer preview of technologies to come in next releases.
• There were no major changes in the norduridmap utility.
• In total, 48 bugs in A-REX and associated components were fixed since the previous ARC CE release in October 2010. These included fixing configuration issues, problems with handling of some job description attributes (both JSDL and xRSL), glitches in some internal job states, and improving performance and functionality of batch system interfaces. • ARC Clients in EMI-1 "Kebnekaise" release is a major step forward with respect to previous releases, as it completes migration to the new code base. With this release the ng* clients are replaced by the arc* clients.
• Introduction of a modular architecture, which comes to its power in the libarcclient and libarcdata2 libraries.
• Compute client comes with plugins providing functionality for job submission, resubmission, and job management against the pre-WS ARC, A-REX, CREAM and any BES-based Execution Service (ES).
• Compute client supports job migration between A-REX instances.
• Compute client supports resource discovery based on EGIIS, ISIS and BDII index services.
• Compute client offers matchmaking and ranking by shortest queue, clock speed, benchmark or data location.
• Compute client offers job description translation between the XRSL, JSDL and JDL languages.
• Modular libarcclient allows easy extension for additional services, ranking algorithms, or job description languages.
• New plugins-based data library, libarcdata2, replaces previous data library.
• Data access is now managed through DMCs, protocol-specific plugins.
• New data clients (arcls, arccp, arcrm, arcsrmping) replace previous data clients (ngls, ngcp, ngrm, ngtransfer, ngstage, ngacl).
• Improved default output for arcls, now closer to UNIX ls. Options are provided to specify non-default output.
• Improved error messages for arcls and arccp, improved calculation of file checksums.
• Fixed a bug where the check for readability (arcls -c) failed incorrectly in some cases.
• Fixed a bug where metadata from gridftp objects were incorrectly reported.
• arcproxy bugfixes: arcproxy - dteam VO error (#2026), arcproxy does not search /etc/vomses recursively (#2118), Segmentation fault with arcproxy with invalid vomses file (#2155)
