StratusLab - Enhancing Grid Infrastructures with Virtualization and Cloud technologies

Collaboration Objectives

  • To re-use or adapt StratusLab components in order to enhance EMI middleware with emerging computing and data models
  • To Utilize StratusLab IaaS test bed for development and component testing purposes
  • To make advancements in the mutual interest of both projects

Project Introduction

StratusLab is developing and deploying cloud technologies with the aim of simplifying and optimizing the use and operation of distributed computing infrastructures such as the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI). The StratusLab Toolkit will integrate cloud and virtualization technologies and services within grid sites and enrich existing computing infrastructures with “Infrastructure as a Service” (IaaS) provisioning paradigms. The cloud distribution complements existing grid middleware services, as provided by the European Middleware Initiative while bringing significant benefits to the e-Infrastructure ecosystem, in terms of simplification, added flexibility, increased maintainability, quality, energy efficiency and resilience of computing sites. Highlights

  • StratusLab Reference Toolkit: To have an overview on accessing clouds it is recommended to at least register and use the StratusLab reference toolkit. StratusLab also offers a testbed to create, run, and monitor TTyLinux and CentOS virtual machines with simple and easy to use command line interface. New users may start using this toolkit by following the tutorial steps.

Collaboration Plan

  • According to the DCI Collaboration map, StratusLab will produce a set of requirements to EMI. So far, the only requirement obtained from their deliverable is to have a properly configured EMI VM appliances for grid site deployment. While creating those virtual appliances we will consider production EMI distributions, which will then be used to form landscape of service deployments. Please follow this link to check the status of EMI appliance efforts.
