The LJSF (Light Job Submission Framework) by Alessandro de Salvo has many nice features, including status checking either with command line or web interface. It is successfully used e.g. by the B-physics group.
File access, copy, etc
pool_insertFileToCatalog has possibly problems, (file has been migrated to tape and there is a problem getting it back) -- try rfcp instead
